PRETTY PRAIRIE - James Eugene Hill, 82, died Aug. 22, 2009, at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie.
He was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Beloit, to James Eugene and Isabel Irene Werts Hill. He was the retired owner of Prairie Roofing Company.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed at Harpers Ferry.
On June 29, 1979, he married Edna E. Hill in Miami, Okla. She died in 1982. Survivors include: sons, Mike Luker and wife Nova, Pretty Prairie, Kenneth Hill, Sanger, Calif., and Joe Stillman, Tulare, Calif.; daughter, Shirley Sills and husband Roger, Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Hill, Guthrie, Okla.; brother, Leland, Beloit; sister, Wanda, Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Hill; brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Daniel Hill; and sisters, Mabel Peterson and Rosilie Johansen.
Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, in Scottsville Cemetery, Scottsville, Kan. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to the Meals on Wheels Program, in care of the mortuary.
