James Ray Ewing, 84, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016. He was born Oct. 28, 1931, at Monette, Ark., the son of James Russell and Maud Ethel (Ballard) Ewing.
He had been a truck driver for the City of Hutchinson for 30 years, retiring May 1, 1996.
He had been married to Sarah Jane Chronister and Juanita Ewing. Both preceded him in death. On Dec. 8, 1995, he married Margaret D. Packebush Oliver in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: children, Danny Ray (Mary) of Hutchinson, and Larry Sain of Homer, Ga.; stepchildren, Von Morton, Eva Bass, and Vicki Mackey, all of Hutchinson; brother, Billy Joe Hahn of Lamar, Colo.; sisters, Alice Weimaster of Hutchinson, and Cuma Vutril of San Francisco, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, James Randall "Randy", and Joey Wayne; a stepdaughter, Melanie Mena; and brothers, Earl and John William "Jake".
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with Jimie-Wray Mead presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
