Obituary

James Archie "Jim" Hartzell, 72, died Feb. 16, 2014, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kan. He was born Oct. 20, 1941, in Salina, Kan., the son of Archie and Mary Pauline (Ratliff) Hartzell.

James graduated from Lincoln High School, Lincoln, Kan., in 1959. He then received his bachelor's degree from Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1964. He was a member of the Sigma Tau Fraternity. He later graduated from the RHEMA Bible Training Center. Jim worked at the Co-op in Partridge and Arlington and later became the branch manager at the Plevna Co-op. He worked for the F.S.A. as a crop adjuster and a map digitizer. He later worked for H&R Block in Kingman. Jim was a member of the Arlington Presbyterian Church.

On Sept. 1, 1963, he married Jo D Steele in Arlington, Kan. She survives.

Other survivors include: five grandchildren, Christopher Carlton of Hutchinson, Ashley Bunch (Kendall) of West Hills, Calif., Abbie Padgett (Chris) of Alden, Jessica Ruckle (Jeffrey) of McPherson, Carmen Carlton of Nickerson; son-in-law, George Carlton of Nickerson; brother, Gary Hartzell (Beverly) of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jace Allen Hartzell; and daughter, Jama D Carlton.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Elliott Chapel in Hutchinson, Kan., with Pastors Melvin Walton and Ron Dykes presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
