"Jim" Morrison
August 4, 1930 – January 17, 2025
James I. "Jim" Morrison, 94, died Friday, January 17, 2025, at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie. He was born August 4, 1930, in Portland, KS, to Robert A. and Metta B. (Blankenship) Morrison.
Jim graduated from Milton High School in 1950 and attended Friends University. He worked for the railroad for 10 years and then as an elevator operator for Collingwood Grain Co. and ADM for over 25 years. Jim was a member of First Mennonite Church, Pretty Prairie. He enjoyed gardening, camping, and attending his grandchildren's activities.
On June 1, 1956, Jim married Avis I. Goering, in Pretty Prairie. They shared 61 years of marriage before her death on August 8, 2017.
Jim is survived by: his sons, Dennis (Diane) of Moundridge and their children, Michelle and Matthew, Dwight (Rosario) of Girona, Spain, and her children, Jordi Vilahur (Abbie) and Marc Vilahur, Daryl (Penny) of Savannah, MO, and their children, Megan Traxler (Aaron), Jordan (Sarah), Logan (Maddie), and Tysan (Hayley); daughter, Denise Welker (Jeff) of Pretty Prairie and their children, Jenny Knoche (Steven) and Jacob (Tiffany); 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lee Morrison of Hutchinson; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; brothers, Dale, Vern, Ray, Ralph, David, Bob; sisters, Wilma Wilkerson, Geneva Poe, and Shirley Albright.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at First Mennonite Church, 1718 W. Pretty Prairie Rd., Pretty Prairie, with Pastor James Blake officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the church's website.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present to receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Prairie Sunset Home or First Mennonite Church, Pretty Prairie, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
