James Henry "Jim" Proffitt, 84, died October 16, 2009 at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born January 13, 1925, in Bluefield West Virginia, the son of James Henry and Nancy Mae Hager Proffitt.
He was a WWII veteran serving as a corporal with the Army. A mechanic of 34 years he worked for the Denver Water Board and also taught at the Denver Tech Automotive School.
He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Hutchinson.
On September 7, 1945 he married Sylvia Blanche Hambrick in Tazwell, Virginia. She survives.
Other survivors include; daughter, Brenda Haulman and husband Dennis of Hutchinson, son, Stephen Proffitt and wife Donna of Lane, Ks, daughters Diana Abney and husband George of Hutchinson, Judy Emerson and husband Phil and Susan Proffitt all of Denver, Co., eleven grandchildren, Chris Goss, Denny Haulman, Cindy Krupka, Jimmy Haulman, David Proffitt, Melissa Stevens, Jonathan Emerson, Michael Emerson and Cody Montoya and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two grandchildren Matthew Abney and Crystal Abney.
Funeral service will be 11 am Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Richard Haley presiding. Visitation will be 9 to 9 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church in care of the mortuary.
