James A. 'Jim' Stevens, 87, of Hutchinson, passed away August 5, 2017, at Via Christi on St. Francis, Wichita. He was born February 26, 1930, to Charles and Katherine Stevens, in Tyrone, OK.

He was the youngest of ten children. Jim worked 40 years on the Rock Island Railroad.

Jim married Eldena Compton on August 26, 1948, in Hutchinson.  He is survived by: his wife of 69 years; children, Theda Barbe, Gordon Stevens, Diana Stringer; daughter- in- law, Sue Stevens; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Doris Mann of Tyrone, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; 8 siblings; son, Duane A. Stevens; grandson, Jessie Barbe; and great-grandson, Jeremiah Barbe.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bob Phipps officiating. Burial will follow in Partridge Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
