James Joseph "Joe" Wharton, 68, died October 12, 2021, at his home.  He was born April 7, 1953, in Omaha, NE, to John James and Wilma Mae (Walden) Wharton.

Joe graduated from Napa High School, Napa, CA, Hutchinson Community Junior College, and Wichita State University with a bachelor's degree in education.  He sold insurance for United of Omaha, and later, bottled wine in California. Joe enjoyed riding his motorcycle, entertaining with backyard cookouts, and taking care of his many animals.

Joe is survived by:  children, James Wharton (Skye) of Hutchinson, Andrea Johnson, and Laura Vonbrandt, both of California; grandsons, Shane Miller and Michael Wharton; aunt, Pauline Heim; and cousins, Sue Heim, Nick Heim, Doug Heim, Allen Heim, Bobby Heim, and Steve Heim.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; sisters, Jill Wharton and Susan Dahlgren; and uncle, Jerome Heim.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2021, at Hoxie Cemetery, with Reverend Gary Davison presiding.  The casket will remain closed.
