Obituary

James "Jim" Lee Sewell, 74, died Sunday, July 13, 2014. He was born Aug. 28, 1939, in Hutchinson, the son of Marion and Clara (Crutchfield) Sewell.

He was a 1957 graduate of Hutchinson High School and 1962 graduate of Bethany College (Lindsborg, Kan.) and member of Pi Sigma Chi. He was a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and tended the garden. Jim was a beloved middle school teacher for eighteen years. During his teaching career, he coached football, basketball and track. On June 28, 1980, he married Linda Louise Caley in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: children and their spouses, Lisa and Ray Randall of Kansas City, Kan., Darin and Mary Lou Sewell of Overland Park, Kan., Leigh and Devon Steckly of Sugarloaf Keys, Fla.; a sister, Patricia and Norman Sawaya of Hutchinson; a brother, Terry Sewell of Yale, Okla.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Craig.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tim Carey presiding. Entombment will be in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the church garden or bell choir may be made to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
