NICKERSON - James E. Moore, 81, died March 8, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Hutchinson, the son of Oscar and Ethel Eaxley Moore. He was a graduate of Hutchinson High School. A lifetime Nickerson resident, he had been a welder for several local companies and worked for the City of Nickerson after his retirement.
He belonged to Nickerson United Methodist Church and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, retiring as master sergeant, Kansas National Guard.
On Aug. 14, 1970, he married Lyla L. Janzen in Nickerson. She died Dec. 17, 1992.
Survivors include: two sons, Travis Moore, West Lafayette, Ind., and James E. Moore, Jr., Hutchinson; two daughters, Annette Harmony, Nickerson, and Denise Moore, Pretty Prairie; a sister, JoAnn Johnston, Pampa, Texas; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nickerson United Methodist Church, Nickerson, with the Rev. Ron Lowry presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson, with military graveside honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Memorials may be sent to the Cancer Council of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
