James W. Morris, 68, died Dec. 8, 2005, in Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Hutchinson, the son of Erle C. and Melba L. Lynn Morris. He was a 1955 graduate of Hutchinson High School and a 1957 graduate of Hutchinson Community College with an Associates Degree in Journalism. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was employed by The Hutchinson News from 1953 to 1985, retiring as Chief Photographer and was the owner of Jim Morris Lab and Lens.
He belonged to the Kansas Army National Guard for 30 years, retiring as the 35th DivArty Command Sergeant Major, and was a recipient of the Ancient Order of St. Barbara, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, NCO Professional Development ribbon, and Kansas National Guard Service Medal.
On May 24, 1958, he married Barbara Rucker May in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Terri Oyler, Hutchinson; a brother, Mike Morris, Hutchinson; a sister, Jeny Williams, Mobile, Ala.; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Pastor Robert Dalke and Chaplain Luanne Haddaway presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military graveside honors conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard 35th DivArty.
