Obituary

James Oscar Dick, 93, died January 1, 2026.  He was born November 28, 1932, in Hutchinson, to John and Ursula Dick.

Jim began working at age 9 selling newspapers on December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day. He never stopped working even after officially retiring in 1994. He mowed five lawns a week through his mid-80s.

Jim graduated from St. Teresa High School in 1950 and married high school sweetheart, Florence Lang, on December 1, 1951. In 1953, Jim was drafted and served his country in the Korean War. Upon his return, he had multiple jobs before joining Dillon's in March 1958.  He worked at Dillon's warehouse for 36 years, retiring in January 1994.

Jim and Florence had two daughters, Darci and Lisa. After Florence's death, Jim married Margie Miller on April 28, 2000. Jim and Margie traveled and volunteered at the Cosmosphere International SciEd Center and Space Museum and the Fox Theatre. After Margie's passing on December 11, 2023, Jim kept an active social calendar with the YMCA, friends and family.

He is survived by: daughters, Darci Lang and Lisa Law (Brad Law), Arizona, and his son-in-law, Martin Miller (Laura Ontjes Miller), Hutchinson; brother, Robert (Bob) Dick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim is proceeded in death by: his first wife, Florence Lang Dick; his second wife, Margie Miller Dick; brothers, Eugene Dick, Ralph Dick, Dwayne Dick; sister, Dolores Dick Winkley Crow; and parents John and Ursula Dick.

Parish Rosary will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2026, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., both at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Father Jerome Spexarth officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.  Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flower, memorials are suggested to St. Teresa Catholic Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
