James O. "Pete" Costello, 82, died March 14, 2012, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Hutchinson, to Raymond and Mary O'Halloran Costello. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in the Class of 1947 and attended Hutchinson Junior College. Retiring after 37 years at Hutchinson Post Office, he was a claims adjuster for Farm Bureau Insurance.

On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Nancy Rayl and she survives. Other survivors include: son, Tim Costello, Fort Mill, S.C.; daughter, Ann Chalfant and husband Brian; grandsons, Mike, Jack and Tom Chalfant, all of Olathe; brother, George Costello, Plano, Texas; sister, Margaret Ann Herndon, Silver Spring, Md.

Friends may sign the book Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation will take place. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Elliott Chapel. Private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Hutchinson Public Library or the donor's choice.
