Obituary

James Warren Strickland, 86, died June 11, 2011 at Mennonite Manor in South Hutchinson. He was born May 5, 1925 in Winfield, the son of Admiral Dewey and Alma Rena (Warren) Strickland. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, he retired from the Hutchinson Fire Department on May 4, 1975. He was a member of the First Christian Church, V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361, American Legion Lyle Rishel Post #68 and Loyal Order of Moose #982. He belonged to the Retired Police and Fire Department, 70th Division Association, Golf Association and Bowling Association.

On November 13, 1944, he married Ida Marie Livingston in Waynesville, MO. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Karon Rohr and Alan Stites, Hutchinson and Carol Howell, Buhler; sister, Marjorie Stroud, Longview, WA, sister-in-law Sue Strickland, Austin, TX; ten grandchildren, Cherish Pulliam, Jeff Rohr, Melissa Rohr, Hope Neal, Aaron Rohr, Ashley Dinwiddie, Lyrick Howell, Peter Howell, Brennan Howell and Sarah Barkley; 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Jo and Frank Eugene Strickland and two sons-in-law, Melvin Howell and Vernie Rohr.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Jim Bell officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may sign the register book from 9-9 Sunday through Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Hospice of Reno County in care of the mortuary.
