Jane F. Stramel Nevius, 81, died Nov. 29, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born March 25, 1935, in Hanston, Kan., to Carl and Agnes (Hertel) Stramel.
Jane graduated from Buhler High School in 1954, and was a parish member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church. Jane retired as Sales Manager from Pitney Bowes Corporation.
Jane felt some of her biggest accomplishments were her involvement and membership with Kansas Trap Shooters Association and being a Red Cross swim instructor for the blind and handicapped. But most of all, she treasured her Letter of Commendation from the City Commission of Hutchinson for the life-saving efforts she performed on Dr. Charles Orthwein in 1966, after a water skiing accident.
On Dec. 9, 1954, Jane married Vestil Gene Nevius in Blackwell, Okla. He died February 4, 1986. Other survivors include: daughters, Jeanne Allen and husband David of Hutchinson, Janice Ballard and husband Bradley of Wichita; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Cheryl Dinwiddie and husband Jack of Hutchinson; and brother, Garry Stramel and wife Mary of Santa Fe, NM. She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Larry and Maurice Stramel; and sister, Wanda Clarke.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
