Obituary

Jane Morgan Savage, 90, died Dec. 13, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Daniel Eugene and Sarah Elizabeth (Jones) Phillips.

A lifetime Hutchinson resident, she moved to San Antonio in 2011. Jane graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1942 and from Kansas State University in 1946 with a degree in Home Economics. Following graduation, Jane taught for a short time at Adela Hale Business College, and then began a 36-year career as a home economist with Kansas Gas Service Company. Jane was a gourmet cook, sharing recipes as a feature writer with the Hutchinson News. She also took classes in Europe and taught gourmet cooking classes in Hutchinson.

At various times in her life, Jane held positions in many organizations, including President of the Pi Beta Phi Alumne Club, President of Kansas Women in Energy, and chairman of the Reno County Committee of the Kansas Arthritis Foundation. She served on the legislative committee of the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce, on the Educational Council of Hutchinson and Reno County, and as an elder in Park Place Christian Church.

After retiring, Jane volunteered, reading books to children, preparing meals in the church, and providing transportation for people needing healthcare. She enjoyed playing bridge, socializing with a mall walking group, and fishing and boating with her husband.

Jane married Herbert V. Savage Jr. on Oct. 2, 1948. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Daniel Phillips Jr.

Survivors include: sons, Herbert V. Savage III and wife Wanda, San Antonio, Texas, and Andrew M. Savage, Friday Harbor, Wash.; sister, Maryellen Munger, Overland Park; four grandchildren, Geneva Martinez and husband Weston, San Antonio, Morgan Savage, San Antonio, Benjamin Savage, Logan, Utah, and Drew Savage and wife Danielle, Great Falls, Mont.; six great-grandchildren, Liana, Grant, Ariel, Victor, and Joseph Martinez, and Ellie Morgan Savage.

Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Park Place Christian Church, 26th and Adams, with Pastor Lynn Taylor officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with the family to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
