Jane E. Whalen Miller

1942 - 2026

Jane “Janie” Miller, 84, passed away peacefully, May 2, 2026, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler, KS. She was born January 26, 1942, in Hutchinson, KS, to E. J. “Bud” and Jane Anna (Butler) Whalen.

Janie graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1960. Janie was employed at Dillons Bakery, Wells Department Store, and Kansas State Grain Inspection. She retired after 30 years of service at RCAT in Hutchinson, Kansas.

While Janie worked for Kansas State Grain Inspection, she met Lloyd G. Miller. On October 21, 1961, they were married in Rice County, Kansas, and shared over 38 years of marriage prior to his passing on December 6, 1999.

Janie was a big sports fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. She was also known for her caregiving spirit and wonderful cooking. Especially her peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies, and buttermilk brownies. She cared for her family, enjoyed family functions, and was present for everything. In addition, she was a proud member of The D.A.R.

Janie is survived by her siblings, Pat Whalen of Hutchinson, Annie Whalen of Wichita; step-son, Joe (Georgeann) Miller of Hutchinson; step-daughter, Pam Maley of Hutchinson; and numerous extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Jane Whalen; husband, Lloyd Miller; brother, Tim Whalen; sisters, Nancy Sherman and Mary Lou Griffin; and step-children, Larry Muller and Cynde Muller.

Friends and family may sign her memorial book at Elliott Mortuary from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until service day. A private family burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Reno County or Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
