Obituary

Jane Clark Zabel, 74, of Hutchinson, died at her home on December 28, 2017. Jane was the third and youngest child of Bernard S. Clark, M.D. and Martha Stoecker Clark. She grew up in Spearfish, SD, where Jane graduated from high school in 1961. Leaving her beloved Black Hills, Jane went on to earn her BA at the University of South Dakota, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

Following a brief teaching career in Omaha, NE, she met and married her husband, Jack. They moved to Kansas City, MO, where Jane worked as a planning assistant and editor at Hallmark Cards, Inc. After their two sons were born, Jane settled into domestic tranquility. Several moves later, the foursome settled in Hutchinson, KS, in 1976. Her desire to be a stay-at-home mother allowed for time as Cub Scout Den Mother, Quilter Guild, president of her PEO chapter and her passion for flower gardening. Jane's yard contains a South Dakota lilac that has been dug up and replanted five times.

Jane is survived by: husband of 49 years, Jack; sons, Karl of Graham, NC, and Andrew of Bellingham, WA; sister, Martha Brost (Frank) of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Pastor Tonia Fisher of Columbus, MT; and many nieces, nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Allan Clark.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Tonia Fisher officiating. Friends may sign the book from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS, is in charge of arrangements.
