Obituary

Janet E. Boroughs, 64, died February 17, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born January 24, 1955, in Lindsborg, to the Rev. Robert B. 'Bob' and Maxine Leonora (Harris) Brooks.

Janet graduated from Abilene High School in 1973. She attended Tabor College and Kansas Wesleyan College and graduated with a double bachelor's degree in psychology and social work. Janet was committed to devoting her life to helping others in both her job, organizations she belonged to, and her church. Janet was a social worker, working for SRS (now DCF, Department of Children and Family Services) in both the Lyons and Hutchinson area for 30 years. She was a member of Piecemakers Quilt Guild and the McPherson Gem and Mineral Club. Janet enjoyed deer hunting and was an accomplished pianist and seamstress. She had a passion for making quilts, completing hundreds of quilts for friends and family members. Janet's greatest joy was being a grandma to her treasured granddaughter, Emma. They shared a special bond and loved spending every moment together. Janet was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lyons, since 1982.

On February 13, 1982, she married David Boroughs in Augusta. They shared 37 beautiful years of marriage.

Janet is survived by: husband, David; daughter, Elizabeth Peterson and husband Matthew; granddaughter, Emma Peterson, all of Lyons; father, the Reverend Robert B. 'Bob' Brooks of Hutchinson; brother, the Reverend Gary R. Brooks and wife Jeanne of Wichita; four brothers- and sisters-in laws; 12 beloved nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and great-nephews; and mother-in-law, Maxine Boroughs of Lyons.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Maxine Brooks and father-in-law, Z. E. Boroughs.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, Lyons, 101 S. Pioneer, with Pastor Kimberly Shank officiating. Burial will follow in Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends and family from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. The casket will remain closed.  Memorials may be made to Piecemakers Quilt Guild in Lyons or First United Methodist Church, Lyons, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
