Jason R. Whalen, 32, died May 19, 2011, here in Hutchinson. He was born June 9, 1978, in Hutchinson, to Pat and Carolyn R. Polson Whalen.


He was a lifetime Hutchinson resident. He was a chef at the Rusty Needle restaurant.

Survivors include: his parents, Pat and Carolyn Whalen of Hutchinson; brother, Matthew of Hutchinson; sister, Carolyn Prell and husband Frog of Superior, Wis.; companion, Stacie Barker; nieces, Kylie Whalen of Henderson, Nev., and Laramie Prell of Superior; nephew, Finnigan Prell of Superior; and Jason's best friend, Dooley. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a niece, Alexa Whalen.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Burial in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The casket will remain closed. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel.
