Jayne Marie Purcell, 82, died Jan. 10, 2009, at Northwest Community Hospital, Inverness, Ill.
She was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of Ben and Prudence Dykman Koepke.
Jayne lived most of her adult life in the Hutchinson area. While at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson, Jayne became an expert quilter and won numerous ribbons at the Kansas State Fair. She made several quilts that were donated to the annual Mennonite Manor quilt auction. As her children and grandchildren married she would make a unique "marriage quilt" for them. Following the death of her husband, Joe, she moved to the Chicago area to be near her daughter.
She belonged to the First Christian Church, Hutchinson.
On Sept. 24, 1949, she married Joe C. Purcell in Hutchinson. He died March 12, 2004.
Survivors include: a son, Tony, McKinney, Texas; a daughter, Marji Purcell Gates, Wheaton, Ill.; grandchildren, Todd Purcell, Winfield, Kris Purcell, Wichita, Wil Purcell, Winfield, Sarah Gates, Wheaton, Ill., and Dawn Warner, McKinney, Texas; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Marilyn, and Cannyon; many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Elizabeth Schnurr, Caladonia, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ken Stevens, Ben Koepke, and Crystal Streelman.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of her life will be held this spring in Burrton. In lieu of flowers.
