Jean Mary Conway, 66, a loving wife, mother and very special friend to many, passed peacefully away Nov. 14, 2006 at her home, with her family and friends at her side, in Hutchinson after a brave 12-year battle with cancer.
Known to most as Jeanne, she was born July 7, 1940 in Astoria, Queens, New York, the daughter of Christian and Irene Scheurer. At 2 years of age, she moved with her family to Port Washington, N.Y., and attended St. Peter's of Alcantara RC grade school and graduated from Paul D. Schreiber High School in 1958. She then attended the Eastern School of Medicine in New York, graduating as a physician's assistant and X-ray technician.
In February 1963, she married Thomas W. Conway of Port Washington and then gave birth to their first son, Thomas Scott, in October 1963. In January 1965, the family moved to Commack, N.Y., which would be her home for the next 39 years. During that time, Jeanne was a homemaker and worked in various voluntary positions for Christ the King RC Parochial School in Commack, N.Y.
In April 1976, she gave birth to her second son, Michael Patrick. In 1980, after a three-year battle with cancer, she lost her first son, Thomas Scott, at the age of 16.
In May 2004, Jeanne moved with her husband to Hutchinson to start their retirement.
Besides her loving husband, Thomas, survivors include her son, Michael Patrick; two brothers, Christian G. Scheurer of Hutchinson, and Robert H. Scheurer of Wilton, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Conway of Collinsville, Ill.
She was predeceased in death by her first son, Thomas Scott; her parents, Christian and Irene Scheurer of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and her in-laws, Vincent and Dorothy Conway of Port Washington, N.Y., and Jensen Beach, Fla.; grandparents; and brother-in-law, Gerald V. Conway of Madison, Wis.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
