Obituary

Jean Gassert, 73, passed away May 13, 2026, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born May 16, 1952, in Washington, KS, to Alfred Donald and Darlene Joyce (Montague) Gassert.

After graduating from Washington High School in 1970, Jean went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Emporia State University. On January 3, 1983, Jean commenced her career as a driver for UPS and continued until her well-deserved retirement.

Jean loved animals, especially dogs and horses, and she never turned away a stray animal. She loved and cherished her ranch, “The Last Chance,” where she enjoyed handling her horses and the simple life. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed relaxing and watching her favorite shows on TV. Above all, Jean treasured spending time with her family and her close friends.

Jean is survived by: her sister, Janet (Ron) Harbaugh of Foley, AL; and her niece and nephew, Eric and Carrie Cline.

She was preceded in death by: her parents and sister, Cathy Gassert.

Per Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place and details on services are pending.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Operation Blessing, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
