Jean Rowland Martens, 79, died Nov. 11, 2007, at Hospice House.
She was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Martin and Mary Burdick Rowland. She graduated from Buhler High School. A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, she was a mother, homemaker and helped train horses with her husband.
She was a charter and lifetime member of Union Valley Bible Church. She also hosted the community bible study and prayer group in her home for 30 years. She belonged to the Kansas Appaloosa Horse Club and was a life member of the National Appaloosa Horse Club.
On March 6, 1946 she married O.J. Martens in Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Scott J. and wife, Elena, Brownsville, Texas; a brother, Bill Rowland, Buhler; two grandchildren, Ryan Rouse and Tyler Hartle; and two great-grandchildren, Braden and Brock Rouse.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cass Martens Hartle; a brother, Wayne Rowland; and three sisters, Grace Bridgewater, Helen England and June Rich.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Valley Bible Church with Pastor Steve Hodgson presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Burial will be in Mitchell Church Cemetery.
