Obituary

Jean Stiles, 86, of South Hutchinson, died April 8, 2011, at Thorne Care Center in Hutchinson. She was born July 2, 1924, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Harvey H. and Ritta Ann Vetter Alumbaugh. A life-long South Hutchinson resident, she attended school at Nickerson. Jean was a homemaker and elevator operator at the Wolcott Building for over 30 years. She was a member of the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church and had served for many years on the South Hutchinson City Commission. Jean served as mayor of South Hutchinson in the early 1980's.



Jean married George Stiles on March 21, 1942, in Hutchinson. He died Nov. 11, 1977. Survivors include: two sons, Gene Stiles and wife Vicki, Torrington, Wyoming, and Jack E. Stiles and wife Marlane, El Dorado; two brothers, Darrel Alumbaugh, Halstead, and Herbert Alumbaugh, Mendota, Ill.; two sisters, Wanda Morris, McPherson, and Pat Falke, Hutchinson; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Eula Bell Williams and Pauline Gisel.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011, in Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson, with Rev. Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Visitation will be Sunday 3 to 9 p.m. and Monday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., all at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, sent in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas, 67501.
