Jerri Higdon, 75, died Feb. 12, 2016, at her home in Benton, surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 8, 1940, in Anthony, to Gene and Pearl (Rainwater) Millard.
Jerri graduated from Kingman High School 1958. She was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ for over 50 years and East Point Church of Christ for over five years. She was a seamstress and owner of Draperies Plus in Hutchinson. Jerri volunteered working for "Unwed Mothers" in Wichita, crocheting over 200 baby blankets. She also was a Girl Scout leader and godly woman, volunteering as an avid Bible School teacher. Jerri had a beautiful smile that could light up a room, and was known for her cooking, especially baking desserts.
Jerri was a loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed. On Jan. 15, 1961, she married Tom Higdon in Hutchinson. They celebrated 55 years of marriage. Survivors include: husband, Tom of Benton; daughters, Christy Dismang and husband Lance of Timnath, Colo., Cathy Schwemmer and husband Rod, Cindy Waggoner and husband Shane, all of Benton; sister, Bonnie Couch and husband Don of Attica; brother, Don Millard and wife Louann of Choctaw, Okla.; sister-in-law, Darlene Higdon of Evergreen, Colo.; brother-in-law, Dave Higdon and wife Chris of Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents; a brother-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson, with Duane Eggleston and Jimie Wray-Mead officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at Benton Cemetery, Benton, with Jimie Wray-Mead officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.
