Obituary

Jerry Dale Polk, Sr., 62, died July 7, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 12, 1949, in Hutchinson, the son of Calvin A. and Earlene E. (Stoughton) Polk.

He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1968, and then attended college on a baseball scholarship, playing first for McPherson College and then Kansas State University. After college he went on to play on a minor league team of the Detroit Tigers. He then became the general manager for the Nashville Sounds, a minor league team for the Yankees, and was most recently the general manager for the Fort Worth Drillers. Jerry enjoyed coaching for the American Legion Teams.

In 1980 he married Ann Marie Russell. She preceded him in death. He then married Kim Disney on May 19, 2004, in Knoxville, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife of Hurst, Texas. Other survivors include: two sons, Jerry Dale Polk, Jr. "J.J.", Argyle, Texas, and Jeffrey Polk and fiance Betty, Hutchinson; his parents, Calvin and Earlene Polk, Hutchinson; a brother, Earl Polk and wife Pam, Burrton; two stepchildren, Tom Disney Black and Heather Disney Black both of Hurst, Texas; a brother-in-law, John Murphy, Denver, Colo.; and a granddaughter, Jacy Polk, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Debrah Ann Murphy.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Steve Hodgson presiding. Family would like to encourage friends to have a story in mind to share at the service. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
