Jesse E. Weeks, 83, died August 2, 2006 at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.
He was born March 25, 1923, in Council Grove, the son of Bailey and Melinda Ann "Linnie" Belt Weeks. He graduated from Council Grove High School. A Hutchinson resident since 1985, he had been an auto mechanic for John North Ford in Emporia for 30 years and had been a self-employed auto mechanic in Americus. He also was caretaker for Cessna/Eaton Employees Grounds at River Creek Recreational Area, Hutchinson.
He belonged to Westbrook Baptist Church, Hutchinson. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Emporia. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He married Dorothy Daughtry. She preceded him in death. On April 8, 1966, he married Romona Vickery Cartwright. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Jessie Elaine Lang and husband Scott, Abilene; three stepsons, Roger Cartwright and wife Betty, Hutchinson, Tom Cartwright and wife Diana, Edmond, OK and Clifford Mason and wife Annette, Lenexa; a step daughter, Freda Schmidt and husband Jerry, Hutchinson; a brother, Dale, Emporia; a sister Louise Stiles, Alta Vista; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers; Eldon, Lloyd, Oral and Larry Weeks; and three sisters, Wauneta Hammer, Venita Kunze and Geneva Herrmann.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Pastor Andy Addis presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
