Obituary

Jessie E. Wharton, 94, died Feb. 25, 2006, at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.

She was born Oct. 22, 1911, in Purcell, Okla., the daughter of Jesse Walter and Hattie Preston Eslick. She graduated from Purcell High School. She was a homemaker.

She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church.

On Oct. 17, 1931, she married Philip T. Wharton in Hutchinson. He died Feb. 18, 1981.

Survivors include: two daughters, Phyllis Binford and her husband, Bill, Hutchinson, and Betty Epperly and husband, Keith, Wichita; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Peggy Bassett, Pat Sterling, Alice Watson and Mary Smith; and a granddaughter, Kathy Binford Phillips.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Penwell-Gabelís Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Nick Warner presiding. Friends may sign the register from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The casket will be closed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers or Trinity United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
