James Wesley 'Jim' Mayes, 81, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born January 9, 1936, in Stafford, to Wesley and Elizabeth (Winfield) Mayes.
Jim graduated from Stafford High School in 1954. After moving to Hutchinson, he operated several service stations. Later, Jim sold cars. He retired from Consolidated Manufacturing and started working as a driver for Midwest Ford shuttle. Jim spent a large part of his 20′s, 30′s and 40′s drag racing and stock car racing.
Jim is survived by: wife, Billie; children, Libby Beck (Tony), James Ray Mayes (Susan), Susie Mayes, Toni Dosch (Rudy Garcia); grandchildren, Adam Dosch (Megan), Tanner Beck (Anne), Tanika Boyd (Richard Hudson), Alyssa Boyd, Tucker Beck; great-grandchildren, Avani Payne, Iyanna Hudson, Regan Beck, Truitt Beck, Richard Hudson III, Lawrenz Dosch, Breckyn Dosch; mother, Elizabeth Mayes, (who is 101 years old); two sisters, Judy Mayes, Linda Hiebert (Steve), and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dad.
Cremation has taken place and per his wishes, there will be no service. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.
