Obituary

Jimmie David “Jay” Pitzer Jr., 71, of Hutchinson, died August 10, 2026, at Ascension Via Christ St. Francis in Wichita. He was born January 24, 1955, in Hutchinson, to James D. “Jimmie” and Evelyn E. (Erb) Pitzer Sr.

Jay graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1973, attended Hutchinson Community College, and received his bachelor’s degree in sales and marketing from Emporia State University. Jay started his career working with his father selling Bison vacuums in high school. Learning the entrepreneurial path that carved his future. From a young age, he was taught how to rebuild, service, polish and sell a vacuum. Which led him in the career of sales and marketing. Jimmie Sr started the vacuum business in the early 50’s (which they were able to sell vacuums to women before they even had electricity to run the vacuums!!!) In 1984 Jimmy and Evelyn moved to the farm. Jay & Donna bought their house and that started the “Vac Doc” along with being a financial planner Jay spent his career as a financial advisor for B.C. Christopher, Edward Jones, and Strategic Financial Services. He also taught sales and marketing at Waukesha County Technical Institute in Wisconsin and at Hutchinson Community College. Jay was also known as “The Vac Doc”, selling and maintaining vacuum cleaners. Known for his sense of humor, Jay was also very civic minded and was a member of Jaycees, AMBUCS, Downtown Hutchinson Kiwanis Club, Hutchinson Community College Quarterback Club, SCORE, the Sky Ryders and held various offices in each of those clubs. He also served on the boards of Salvation Army, Cosmosphere, Hutchinson Recreation Commission and Prairie Fest. Jay was a member of Park Place Christian Church and served on the church board.

On August 5, 1978, he married Donna J. Winkley in Hutchinson. They shared 48 years of marriage.

Jay is survived by his loving wife, Donna, of Hutchinson; mother, Evelyn Pitzer of Hutchinson; sisters, Karleen Kroeker of Hutchinson, Shelly Gibler (Robert) of Lawrence; sister-in-law, Marilyn Dickson; nephews, Jeremy Kroeker (Angie) of Nickerson, Kameron Gibler of Lawrence, Kiefer Gibler of San Anselmo, California, Robert Dickson of Hutchinson; nieces, Jaimie McComas (Roy) of Hutchinson, Jennifer Dickson of Lyons; great-nephews, Ethan McComas, Charlie McComas, Tyler Kroeker; great-nieces, Ashley Scarborough (Gino), Kailyn Dickson; great-great-nieces, Haley and Hazel; and; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father and father and mother-in-law, John and Peg Winkley.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams St., Hutchinson.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Park Place Christian Church, Salvation Army, or Downtown Hutchinson Kiwanis, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
