Joan "Jody" Bentson, 83, died Sept. 18, 2005, at Wesley Towers Retirement Community, Hutchinson.

She was born Dec. 27, 1921, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Harold and Ursula Maude Kirkpatrick Hogue. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1939, Hutchinson Junior College in 1941, and Kansas State University in 1943. She had taught Physical Education at Great Bend Jr. and Sr. High Schools from 1943 to 1947, and farmed with her husband near Pretty Prairie. She was a rural Pretty Prairie resident, moving to Hutchinson in 1986.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Pretty Prairie and Hutchinson; and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

On June 5, 1947, she married Charles K. Bentson at Hutchinson. He died Feb. 24, 2001.

Survivors include: two daughters, Amy Bentson, Overland Park, Ann Sellers and husband, Ron, Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Abbie Welu and husband, Dan, Kechi, Sam Sellers, Chicago, and John Sellers, Lawrence.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Hal Hogue.

Graveside service will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lone Star Cemetery, rural Pretty Prairie, and memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson, with the Revs. Tim Soule and Helen Moore Spath presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in the Lone Star Cemetery, rural Pretty Prairie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the donor's choice, in care of the mortuary.
