Joan Travis Brewer, 84, a long-time resident of Hutchinson, passed away of natural causes on April 11, 2015. She was born March 13, 1931, to Eugene Powell and Sarah (Boyle) Travis in Frederick, Okla.

A loving mother and devoted homemaker, Joan was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family, friends, and anyone in need. Joan had an unwavering faith in God, and was a devoted member of Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church. Through the years, she assisted with numerous fundraising events, taught Sunday school, and was a missionary in her community. It wasn't uncommon for Joan to bring someone less fortunate into her home to share a hot meal. You were considered family as soon as you entered the front door.

She is survived by: her loving husband of 66 years, Floyd Sterling Brewer; two sisters, Judie Travis and Mary Franciamore; and children, Kathy (Tom) Coons, William (Cheryl) Brewer, and Harold (Janet) Brewer. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, Mike, Christie, Cameron, Amie, Brad, Jim, Cristi, Nicole, Jennie, Danielle, Tim, Abbie, Nathan and Clint; along with 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her son, Gary; daughter-in-law, Nancy Brewer; and several of her siblings.

The family gives everyone who cared for Joan their greatest gratitude. She was loved by many, and will be missed by all. "So as you stand upon the shore, gazing at a beautiful sea – remember me." -Margaret Mead.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, 56th and Pennington Rd., with Pastor Teresa Wynn presiding. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
