Joan "Jodi" Bruce, 77, died Nov. 20, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Nov. 20, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Harold David and Naomi Pearl Farrell Byer. In 1947, she graduated from Hutchinson High School. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. She was a member of Credit Women, Apple Lane Sewing Club, a volunteer at Delos V. Smith Senior Center and Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Reno Co., and also a member and past president of Hutchinson Chapter of AARP.
On Dec. 26, 1947, she married James S. Bruce III. He died Oct. 24, 1999.
Survivors include: two sons, J. David and his wife, Rita, Estes Park, Colo., and Jace, Hutchinson; a daughter, Joanice Jantz and husband, David, Syracuse; two brothers, Steve Byer, Pinellas Park, Fla., and Terry Byer, Rutledge, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Aaron and Michael Bruce, Kristi Haugsness, Alicia Baklik, Kimberly Cashler, and Cori and Chris Capper; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Shaun Elledge.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Darrell Bisel officiating. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
