Joan I. Dunn, 92, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 13, 2021. She was born July 20, 1928, in rural Reno County, to Joseph and Nona (Gregg) Farney.

Joan worked four years at the Langdon corner drug store during high school and moved to Hutchinson immediately following graduation from Langdon High School (Salutatorian) in 1946, to begin working at the Farmer's Cooperative Commission Co. After being a full time mother to her three children, she returned to work at FarMarCo Grain Company for over 15 years before retiring.

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the DUO Sunday School Class. Joan was a 60+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; serving as Worthy Matron of the Acacia Chapter #37 in 1966, and serving as Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Kansas in 1976-77.

After retirement, Joan enjoyed golfing as a member of the Carey Park Women's Association and played in many area tournaments. She spent countless hours cultivating her flowers and yard, and watching birds. Joan was a tireless caregiver and health advocate for her husband, a brother, and a sister, in their final years.

Joan met her husband, Roy Dunn, through mutual friends at a movie theater in Turon. They married on May 15, 1949, in Hutchinson.

After retirement, Joan and Roy enjoyed traveling and spent many cold Kansas winter months in Pismo Beach, CA and Green Valley, AZ with friends from around the country.

Joan and Roy celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage, before Roy's passing in 2016.

Survivors include: children, Randy Dunn and wife Nita of Culpeper, VA, Deborah Dunn-Smoot and husband Richard of Raleigh, NC, Brad Dunn and wife Kelly of Hutchinson; brother, Jay Farney of Stafford; grandchildren, Brandi Dunn, Joel Heiman, Justin Smoot, and Judi Dunn; and great-grandchildren, Jameson and Sophie Heiman.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; brothers, Willard Farney and Richard Farney; and sisters, Ruby Dickerson and Ruth Farney.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Honors will be conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star.   Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
