JoAnn "Jody" McNaghten Coleman, 86, died Dec. 12, 2013, at Hospice House. She was born in Hutchinson on Jan. 24, 1927, to John Charles and Thelma (Welch) McNaghten.
Jody graduated from Hutchinson High School and from the University of Arizona, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After college, she moved to Dallas, Texas, where she met John Dennis Coleman of Boston, Massachusetts. On Oct. 13, 1953, they were married at Grace Episcopal Church. A dedicated horsewoman in her youth, Jody later combined her twin passions for golf and music, while cherishing travel to Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico, and Colorado Springs, where she spent summers in her youth.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Doris McNaghten Elner of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. Other survivors include: son, Michael Charles Coleman and his wife Lisa Apostle Coleman of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; daughter-in-law, Jan Groseclose Coleman of Bothell, Wash.; grandchildren, Anne Catherine Coleman and Charles McNaghten Coleman of San Miguel de Allende, Matthew Kemp Coleman and Christopher Dennis Coleman of Bothell; niece, JoAnn Thomson of Palos Verdes Estates; and nephew, James Charles Thomson of Eddyville, Ore. Jody was preceded in death by her parents and her elder son, Kent Dennis Coleman.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park, with the Rt. Reverend Michael P. Milliken officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to benefit the Hutchinson Symphony, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
