Obituary

Joel Douglass Brown, 49 died January 16, 2011, at Via Christi St. Francis Campus, Wichita. He was born November 12, 1961, in Houston, TX, the son of Connie and Elaine Brown.

In 1980 he graduated form Pretty Prairie High School, and then graduated from Oklahoma State Tech with a degree of Technology in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Mechanics in 1983 and from Salina Area Vocation Technical School with a diploma in 1987.

He worked at Underground Vault and Storage in Hutchinson for approximately 10 years before farming and ranching with his father in Arlington. He attended South Hutchinson Mennonite Church after growing up in the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie. Joel had many hobbies and interests including: renovating cars, hotrods, riding and training horses, history, and all his son's interests and activities.

Survivors include; son, Spencer Brown, Hutchinson; parents, Connie and Elaine Brown, Arlington; Spencer's Mother, Shelly Bush, Hutchinson; sister, Rhonda Alfers and husband Curtis, Wichita; nieces and nephew, Andie, Taylor and Miranda Alfers, Wichita; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Floyd and Lottie Brown and Joe and Della Graber.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church with Pastors Howard Wagler and Lester Zook presiding. Burial to follow at Sego Cemetery, Arlington. Friends my call Thursday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family receiving friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan Ministries Joel Brown Memorial Fund in care of Elliott Mortuary.
