J.D. Elwell, 73, of Hutchinson, died April 23, 2011, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.
He was born Oct. 16, 1937, in Hutchinson, to Joel R. and Irene Dutton Elwell.
He was a graduate of Buhler High School in 1955, Hutchinson Community College in 1957, and Kansas State University in 1963. He was an architect. He was a member of Grace Bible Church, Alpha Kappa Lamda at KSU, and Hutchinson Rotary Club. He served in the Army National Guard.
On Sept. 7, 1962, he married Mary Ann Chance in Manhattan, Kan. She died April 2, 2007. Survivors include: son, Eric and his wife Marlla of Franklin, Tenn.; daughter, Amy VanWinkle and her husband James of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Englysh and Keaton Elwell, Alexandra, Alyssa and Riley Crane; and a great grandchild, Lola Elwell.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Grace Bible Church, 1221 E. 33rd, Hutchinson, with Pastor Rick Goertzen officiating. Following his request for cremation, friends may sign the book, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Family will receive friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County in care of the mortuary.
