Starts at 1:30 pm (Central time)
Joel Clifford Wright, 65, passed away August 6, 2026, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born March 8, 1961, in Louisville, KY, to John David and Dorothy Louise (Morrison) Wright Jr.
In 1977, Joel was injured in a wreck in Fredonia, KS. He then spent the next 10 years in a nursing home in Derby and then had the opportunity to be the first resident admitted to Hutchinson Heights. Joel was a treasured part of the Hutchinson Heights and then Disability Supports family for the next 40 years.
Joel was a professional flirt and a favorite amongst staff throughout the years. He was ornery as can be with a matching sense of humor! He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life-drinking coffee, eating a good meal (pizza) and going fishing every time he got the chance. In addition, he enjoyed watching wrestling, traveling, and always looked forward to attending church, at The Father’s House in Hutchinson.
Joel had a heart of gold and his spirit was indominable. No matter the circumstances of his life, the failings of his body, or the struggle to communicate, he faced each day with courage, faith, that amazing sense of humor, and a smile on his face. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by his Disability Supports family.
Joel is survived by: his long-term staff and close friends at Disability Supports and The Fathers House; his siblings, Janet Cain and Richard Wright.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, David and Brian Wright; sister, Angela; and nephew, Jerry Householder.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Joel’s life will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026, at The Father’s House, 1505 E. 20th, Hutchinson. A private inurnment will take place at a later date in Fredonia City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Disability Supports, The Father’s House, or Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
