BURRTON - John P. Anderson, 94, died Thursday morning, Sept. 13, 2012, after a short illness at Hospice House.
He was born June 13, 1918, in Scammon, Kan., the son of James and Edith (Harrison) Anderson.
He graduated from West Mineral High School, Weir City, Kan. in 1936. John served in the Army from 1942-1945. He worked for eight years as a city bus driver in Wichita, he then worked in the oil fields, and for 15 years at the Burrton IGA. He retired after 27 years as the Burrton Cemetery Sexton at the age of 92. John was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Burrton, where he was an adult Sunday school teacher for over 25 years, was the leader of closing exercises, in the choir and ushered for many years.
On Jan. 14, 1943, he married Marie Collins in Burrton. She died July 12, 2008.
Survivors include: two children, Janet Marie Creedon of Ottawa, Ill., and Phillip Ray Anderson and wife Teresa of Burleson, Texas; four grandsons, Tim Creedon, Kyle Creedon Rhyan Anderson and wife Kelsey, Corey Anderson and wife Shelby; three great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by: his wife; an infant son, John Raymond Anderson; four brothers; and a sister.
Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Burrton, with Pastor Mike Graber presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Burrton Cemetery.
