John Edwin Barrett, 86, passed away January 20, 2022, at his home.  He was born June 4, 1935, in Hutchinson, to John Samuel and Oma Marie (Leach) Barrett.

John was a longtime employee of Krause Plow, retiring in 1996.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  John was a lifetime member of the American Giant Homer Pigeon Association and was a member Riverside Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

On September 21, 1974, he married Joyce "Joan" Hicks, in Hutchinson.

John is survived by:  his wife, Joyce "Joan" Barrett of Hutchinson; children, John (Shaunda) Barrett, Sharon (Randy) Christner, Jerry Barrett, all of Hutchinson, and Michael Barrett of Haviland, KS; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Flickinger; and brother, Jim Barrett.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; son, Wayne Barrett; sister, Peggy Haley and husband, John; sister-in-law, Margaret Barrett; and brother-in-law, Clyde Flickinger.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Riverside Baptist Church, 1100 W. 21st Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Richard Haley officiating.  Burial will follow in Peace Valley Cemetery, rural Reno County.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022, and Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Riverside Baptist Church or American Lung Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
