Obituary

John Beckman, age 92, residing in Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on August 8, 2023.

John was born to John and Olive (Harsh) Beckman on June 4, 1931, in Cumberland, Maryland. He had 4 siblings: Joyce Buckley, Avenel Parsons, Doris Arnold and Don Beckman.

John married Geraldine Mary Ford on June 7, 1950, and they had three children, Steve, Laurie and John. As newlyweds, John and Jerry made their way from West Virginia to Kansas where he worked the wheat harvest and other jobs prior to serving his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He then attended Pittsburgh College in Kansas to study the refrigeration trade. John worked for, then co-owned and operated, Eales Plumbing and Refrigeration in Hutchinson, Kansas where he worked until retirement in 1995.

John lived a full life, often taking trips "back east" to attend family reunions and keep in touch with loved ones. He enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing, dancing, traveling and enjoying life with the love of his life, Geraldine "Jerry" for 60 years. Jerry passed in 2011.

Linda Plank was his companion in his final years until her passing in 2021.

John was ever thankful for the many folks who helped him along the way. He was a patient, thankful and generous man.

John is survived by: his son, Steve Beckman (Kelly) of Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Laurie Hoag (Mike) of Lindsborg, KS; and son, John Beckman (Tonya) of Park City, KS; six grandchildren, Ben Beckman (Erin), Tabitha Eshelman, Olivia Gates (Chris), Christine Hoag, Emily Beckman and Kelsey Collins; and 14 great grandchildren, Marcail, Henry, Naomi, Toby and Riley Wright (James Wright), Sean, Eleanor, Chloe, Lilyana, Ruth and Milo Gates, Aven Eshelman, Timmy Traylor and River Beckman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jerry.

Memorial service will be 10 am Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps. Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Tuesday with family present from 5 to 7 pm at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Gentiva Hospice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
