Obituary

John Harman Chastain, 90, died June 2, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born December 8, 1920, at Judsonia, Arkansas, the son of Wesley E. and Mabel Ann Harman Chastain.

He was a 1939 graduate of Fayetteville, Arkansas High School, a member of Park Place Christian Church, was a former member of Brotherhood Railway and Steamship Clerks, a World War II Army veteran serving in the European Theater, and was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. He managed the Continental Trailways bus depot for 40 years, retiring in 1985.

On February 6, 1946, he married Coral A. McClure at Pittsburg. She died November 7, 2001. He is survived by his children and spouses: RaeAnn and Don Cuda, Hutchinson, John W. and Cheryl, Arkansas City, James H. and Pam, South Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Jason and Trisha Cuda, Amy Chastain and Kayla Chastain; three great-grandchildren, Aidyn, Jordyn and Calvin. He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother, Frank, and two sisters, Eloise Grubb and Sally Rae Compton.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. at Crocker Cemetery, Pittsburg, with military rites conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Calling hours will be 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with family present 6 to 8 p.m., all at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson. Memorial gifts may be made to the Park Place Christian Church, Hospice House, or the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, in care of the mortuary.
