John D. Scott, 97, died Dec. 5, 2005, in Wesley Towers Hester Care Center, Hutchinson.
He was born Jan. 30, 1908, in Chautauqua County, the son of Isaac Peter and Nellie Ann Chance Scott. He was a 1927 graduate of Peru High School, Peru. A resident of Hutchinson since 1965, moving from Claflin, he was an employee of Prairie Oil & Gas and Sinclair Oil, which was bought out by ARCO, retiring as a pumper in 1972.
He belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, was a life member of Claflin Masonic Lodge No. 424, and Holyrood Order of the Eastern Star No. 420.
On June 2, 1928, he married Faye Williams in Marshall, Mo. She died Nov. 13, 1995.
Survivors include: a daughter, Billie Rose and husband Alan, Lynchburg, Va.; a brother, Gordon Scott, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Catherine Graham, Ponca City, Okla.; two grandchildren, Scott Jeffryes, Anchorage, Alaska and Chris Jeffryes, Lynchburg, VA; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Johnnie Lee Scott; two brothers, Charles and Billy Scott; two sisters, Clara Berry and Eva Ade; grandparents, David Kemp and Elizabeth Doty Scott, John Riley and Catherine Chance.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Towers Hester Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Nick Warner presiding. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Claflin Masonic Lodge No. 424. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to Heartspring or Claflin Masonic Lodge No. 424, both in care of the mortuary.
