John Arthur Engstrom was born October 12, 1930, at Rock Island, IL, the son of John M. and Dorothy A. Crosby Engstrom. He went to be with his Lord, October 15, 2016.

He was a graduate of Rock Island High School and a 1996 graduate of Sterling College. John was an Army Veteran and was an active member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church. He had been an accountant and dispatcher for KPL/Westar Energy Corp. for 31 years, retiring in 1992.

On June 12, 1955, he married Evelyn Janice Grunder at Sylvia. She died June 4, 1991. Then on January 24, 1998, he married Clarice Wolf Mathews. She died November 14, 2012. He was the father of two sons and two daughters; Wade of Wichita and Jon (Paula) of Topeka, Trina Metheny of Liberty, MO, and Valarie Freeland of Hutchinson; three step-children; two sisters, Edna Fiedler of Coyne Center, IL and Doris Engstrom of Rock Island, IL; brother-in-law Allen Grunder (Beverly) of Winfield; ten grandchildren; six step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and five step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; son-in-law, Roger Freeland; brothers, Ernest and Charles.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Elliott Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Dixie Voss Anders presiding. Burial will follow in Neelands Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.

Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
