John Graber Eriksen, 78, passed away May 8, 2014, in Denver, Colo. The beloved husband, father and grandfather was born Dec. 13, 1935, to Carl and Dorothy Graber Eriksen in Tulsa, Okla.
He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1953, and entered the University of Kansas where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi. John earned a degree from the School of Business in 1957.
John married Jane Faubion Aug. 5, 1956, in Hutchinson and they had two children, Jeff and Jana. He served in the United States Air Force, then returned to Hutchinson and joined the family business, Eriksen's, Inc., where he became the company's president. He worked for Krause Plow and the First National Bank of Hutchinson, retiring from the bank as Vice President of Business Development. John was a member of and served on the boards of several community organizations including: the Hutchinson Rotary Club, the Hutchinson-Reno County Chamber of Commerce, Hutchinson Planning Commission, First Presbyterian Church, United Way of Reno County, Kanza Council of the Boy Scouts, Young Presidents Organization and was a VITA volunteer. A devoted KU alumnus, John served the University of Kansas as a board member of the Alumni and Endowment Associations and the Greater University Fund.
Survivors include: his wife, Jane; son, Jeff and wife Marla of Hutchinson; daughter, Jana Voth and husband Ned of Denver; grandchildren, Whitney Eriksen Chang and husband Ken, Hillary Voth, Kelsey Eriksen Barnes and husband Jim, Andrea Voth and Lindsey Eriksen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Lowell Knauss officiating. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the week at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in John's memory to the KU Endowment Association (to support scholarships within the KU School of Business) or to First Presbyterian Church, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
