Obituary

John Wesley Godbey, 95, went to his heavenly home, May 10, 2006, at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.

He was born Feb. 12, 1911 in Ellis, the son of John Wesley and Luella Williams Godbey. He graduated from Salina High School in 1929. After retirement he moved to Tucson, Ariz., for 15 years, then Duncan, OK for six years and was a resident of Wesley Towers for the last eight years. He was a local manager for KPL for 45 years, from 1931 until retiring in 1976, working at Blue Rapids, St. Mary's and spending most of his career in Hoisington.

He was a current member of Trinity United Methodist Church, was "Mr. Methodist," actively participating in the United Methodist Churches wherever he lived, was a 50 year member of the Lions Club, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite, Masonic Lake Lodge No. 50, at Silverlake, for 61 years, and the ISIS Shrine, Salina.

He married the love of his life, Junette Leona Hed on Sept. 11, 1931, in Abilene. They celebrated 71 wonderful years together. She preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 2002.

Survivors include his children: Phyllis Jukes and husband Jim, Waunakee, Wis., Patricia Johnson and husband Larry LaFage, Duncan, Okla., John W. Godbey and wife Betty ann Kolner, Pleasantview, Colo., and the Rev. Dr. James E. Godbey and wife Sarah, Dodge City; a sister, Dorothy Paramore, Topeka; was loved by eight grandchildren, Beth Ann Feran, Eric Jukes, Jeffrey Jukes, Jeffery Johnson, Richard Johnson, Corey Daniel Godbey, Laura Godbey Kurniadi and Paul E. Godbey; and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Robert and William "Bill" Godbey; and two sisters, Mary Katherine Beisner and Frances Williams.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Hester Chapel, Hutchinson with the Rev. Nick Warner and Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Memorial Scholarship Fund at Southwestern College, Winfield or the local United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
