John W. Hopkins, 44, died Oct. 23, 2010, at his home, Hutchinson. He was born Nov. 20, 1965, in Newton, the son of Richard L. and Ruth Ann Lake Hopkins. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, he was an electrician for Shelley Electric, Wichita.
He belonged to Westside Baptist Church. John was very artistic. He enjoyed drawing and playing his guitar in addition to writing music. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
On Nov. 24, 1990, he married Ann Janell Showalter in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: sons, John Hopkins II and wife Emily, and Caleb Hopkins, all of Hutchinson; daughters, Jessica Chaney and husband Zach, Nicole Lamer and husband Travis, and Noah Danielle Hopkins, all of Hutchinson; his parents, Richard and Ruth Ann Hopkins, Sylvia; sisters, Bev Steffen, Sylvia, and Jenny McPherson, Andover; nine grandchildren, Maliki, Jessy and Kortnee Chaney, Adriel, Jaxson and Gwenyth Lamer, William, Arabella and Leah Hopkins; and numerous other relative and friends. He was preceded in death by his biological father, Ira Joe Hendricks and grandparents, Ted and Ruth Hopkins, Dorothy Allred and Leon and Mary Lake.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday Oct. 28, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Adrian presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the mortuary. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Haven, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be sent to the John W.
