Obituary

John Robert "Jack" McCain, 76, was called home to the Lord Thursday, August 13, 2009, surrounded by loved ones, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. Jack was born November 15, 1932, in Paris, Tennessee, the son of John Robert McCain and Raquel Escobedo Guerrero McCain de Perkis.

He was baptized in the Baptist church. In 1950, he graduated from Grove High School, Paris, Tennessee, and served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class. Jack earned his B.A. from Murray State University, Murray, Ky., taught Spanish and coached high school basketball in Crossville, Ill., and Bridgeport, Ill., earned his M.A. in Languages on a Graduate Assistantship at Oklahoma University, Norman, Okla. He was a Spanish professor at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, later owned and operated McCain's Exchange, Manhattan, KS. In Hutchinson, he sold real estate and was owner/operator of Reno Pawn.

Jack had many interests, traveled extensively, loved chess and played classical guitar.

He is survived by: his four children, Kimberly McCain, Kent McCain and wife, Candi, and Julie Lecky, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Jill Jackson, Huntsville, Ala.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ina Veltman.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Bob Phipps presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
