John J. Nestor, 84, went to be with his Lord, Dec 30, 2008 at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers. He was born Nov. 5, 1924, in McPherson, the son of John F. and Florence Bricker Nestor.
He attended Bible Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas and graduated from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Mo.
John was a former pastor for 35 years at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church now known as The Corner Stone Baptist Church. He was a current member and his main joy in life was going to church. He was also a member of the National Woodcarvers Association; he enjoyed woodcarving, oil painting and visiting with people. He especially enjoyed the Men's Club and activities at Wesley Towers.
On Aug. 22, 1943, he married Etta May Boone in Hutchinson. She died Oct. 17, 1999. Survivors include: two daughters, Jeanette Bates and husband Michael and Bonita Nestor both of Hutchinson; sister, Phyllis Jean Hobson, Wichita; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Glendon and a sister Wanda Holmes.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Corner Stone Baptist Church, with Pastors Larry Wedel and Harold E. Nelson presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday, with family to receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
