John M. Rust, 74, died October 2, 2024, at his home. He was born May 23, 1950, in Fayetteville, AR, to Claude W. and Naomi J. (Peterson) Rust.

John served in the United States Navy for eight years. He worked for Williams Natural Gas Company for over 25 years. John enjoyed reading books by Louis L' Amour, fishing and eating a good homecooked meal. He also enjoyed cooking fired okra, pancakes and biscuits and gravy. John was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, in Hutchinson.

On August 11, 1972, he married Susan E. Patton, in Ulysses. They shared over 52 years in marriage.

John is survived by: wife, Susan Rust of Hutchinson; son, Caleb (Tara) of Amarillo, TX; six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Sue Rust; half-brother, Johnny Peterson.

Funeral service will be 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2024, at First Southern Baptist Church, 1201 E. 23rd Avenue, Hutchinson, with Dr. Roy Jaye officiating. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2024, with honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard, in the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Winfield, 1208 N. College Street, Winfield. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
